One Strange Mother Pucker

A Sour Invades Richmond
Virginia, be prepared to pucker! An Old Dominion brewery is releaseing a sour ale, an appropriate introduction to the local craft beer scene during August, Virginia Craft Beer Month.
Strangeways Brewing, which tapped its first beers in 2013, is introducing what owner Neal Burton calls “Virginia's First Real Sour Beer.” Despite the brewery’s aura of mystery surrounding its initial beers, this beer’s name is announced from the start: “WORD!” The taste, of course, is a mystery—at least until the two inaugural tappings on Friday, August 9.
The first tapping, Track 1, will be at Strangeways Brewing’s tasting room at 6pm, with guest “tapper” An Bui of Mekong restaurant. The brewery will also present a WORD! “curiosity,” the sour infused with a carefully chosen, limited-release infusion.
The second tapping, Track 2, will be that same evening at 8pm at Mekong Vietnamese restaurant. The Mekong event will also include a surprise “Andall” (using a special “randall” filter to add complementary flavors, created by Mekong’s An Bui, hence an “Andall”).
The sour will join other Strangeways beers, including Woodbooger Belgian-style brown ale, Albino Monkey white ale, Wallonian Dawn honey saison, and Phantasmic East Coat IPA.
You can find more information on Strangeways beers, their tasting room hours and special events, and location at the Strangeways Brewing web site or on their Facebook page.
