Donate for the Chance and Support High Bridge Trail State Park

Who will be the first citizen to walk across the newly decked and completed High Bridge--the namesake of Virginia's newest state park? For a $1.00 donation, anyone can enter the drawing to be held in early Spring 2012 that will provide such an opportunity to the lucky ticket holder. This fundraising event, sponsored by the Friends of High Bridge Trail State Park, will help fund future projects involved with the 31-mile rail trail park. To support this cause and to get a chance to make this historic bridge crossing, donations can be made at any one of the following area businesses:

Agee's Bicycle Shops (3 Richmond locations), Amelia County Library, Blackwater Bike Shop in Lynchburg, Burkeville Town Hall, Charlotte County Grays SCV, Charlotte's Web in Cumberland, Cumberland Exxon, Cumberland Restaurant, Vito's Restaurant in Cumberland, Farmville/ Prince Edward Library, Charley's Waterfront Cafe, Grant's Glass, Virginia's Heartland Visitor's Center, High Bridge Rails & Trails Bike Rental, Merk's Restaurant, Midtown Mailboxes, Pairet's, Southside Virginia Family YMCA, Wilck's Lake Sheds, Sheldon's Restaurant in Keysville, Nottoway Public Libraries, and Pamplin Town Office in the railroad depot.

It has been 97 years since a pedestrian could walk across High Bridge. Be the first trail user in the 21st Century to take this momentous trek across one of central Virginia's most important historical landmarks. It will be a moment to record in time!

Individual tickets may be purchased for a $1 donation; a $5 donation buys you 6 tickets. Purchase as many chances as you desire as the proceeds go to helping out a great cause--our own High Bridge Trail State Park.

High Bridge Trail State Park near Farmville in Central Virginia is a multi-use trail for hiking, bicycling and horseback riding. The trail, once a rail bed, is wide, level and generally flat. Its surface is finely crushed limestone. The trail's surface and dimensions make it easy for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy it. Its centerpiece is the majestic High Bridge, which is more than 2,400 feet long and 160 feet above the Appomattox River. The bridge was built in 1853 as part of the South Side Railroad.

Twenty-eight miles of trail are open as of this writing, September 2011. Work on other park facilities continues.

Be sure to bring plenty of drinking water because it's not available on the trail.
