Active Woman Traveler

Whether traveling to a new city or exploring one's own, it's helpful to have  suggestions on what to see, where to go, how to get there, what it means--the works. Tour guides can help a traveler learn more about a city, quickly and easily, without having to bury the nose in a travel book. Though a book can provide in-depth background, it can be a drag to carry around on the streets. Tour guides, on the other hand, can be expensive and tricky to schedule.

Now there's a new option: walking tour apps for iPhone!

Each walking tour comes with a detailed tour route map and powerful navigation features using the GPS technology that guides visitor from one sight to the next with accurate turn-by-turn directions to famous attractions, monuments and interesting sights as well as hidden gems. 

As the Active Woman Traveler, I have created walkable apps for the active mind. One of these is Richmond's Civil War.

Richmond's Civil War offers 10 historic sights in downtown Richmond, Virginia that reflect this tumultuous time in our nation's history and the pivotal and tragic part that this capital city of the Confederacy played. Richmond escaped direct conflict until the last month of the war. In 1865, Union forces closed in on the city so Confederates set fire to bridges, warehouses, and the armory. The fire raged out of control and destroyed large parts of the city. Tour sights include the Museum and White House of the Confederacy, Tredegar Iron Works, Belle Isle and the military prison, and the Reconciliation Statue.
