Leslie Rubio, Traveler
Born and raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia in the sleepy, railroad town of Crozet, Leslie Rubio arrived in Richmond, VA in 1979 to pursue a degree in Art from Virginia Commonwealth University. She studied art in grade school, and volunteered for projects that kept the creative juices flowing, realizing at a young age her passion for art. Upon graduating from VCU with a BFA in Painting and Printmaking in 1984, Leslie continued to live in the Richmond, VA area. She has held positions at The Martin Agency, This End Up Furniture Co. and is currently the comptroller for Premier Appraisal Group, Inc., a residential real estate appraisal company. Throughout her work life, she has always continued her love of art and is an active member of the community. She donates her time, energy and efforts on raising awareness and funds for local causes including MCV Massey Cancer Center and the local chapter of Make a Wish Foundation. Many weekends she can be found painting murals in clinics and on children’s bedroom walls; a way to make art and give back to others. She has recently re-discovered her love of photography, employing the skills learned at VCU, and has found great joy in capturing nature, life and living through her lens. In July she entered and won 2 spots in the S.P.C.A. benefit calendar contest, which will be published and sold in August. Leslie is an avid traveler and has focused many of her trips on the Caribbean and the Yucatan Peninsula. She maintains a blog filled with art, photography and writing at http://www.leslielovinlife.blogspot.com.
